Mr. Fix-it Man

The other morning Dylan went to brush his teeth, and his tooth brush wouldn't turn on. Well, what does any 3 year old do when something is broken..

he gets his tool box and tools to fix it!

To my husband....

I think I want to marry Seth all over again just so we can have a first dance to this song. Usually not a Keith Urban fan, but I heard this song today and wouldn't get out of the car until it was over.

Will it be like this for long?

Whenever I hear this song I think of our life right now. Is he right, will this only last a week or two?
Dylan started Creative Play this week. He is there 3 hours a day and it lasts for 2 weeks. The mornings are hard. VERY hard. Dylan has NEVER had to go with someone that he doesn't know. He goes to Grandma Packard's while we work. If we ever need a babysitter it is, my parents, sister, or my cousins and aunt and uncle. He cries. He says he just misses me when he's there. Oh, times like this I wish he couldn't talk and tell me these things. Having your baby (I know he's 3, but he is my one and only, so he IS my baby still!) cry and say they just miss you is the most heart breaking thing to hear. Part of me wants to just hold him and keep him in my arms forever and not make him go. But I know that he needs to go, and me letting him get his way will make matters even worse. The good thing is once he is there he stops crying and he has fun. He is just so stinkin' smart that he is trying to get out of going. I have to keep being the tough guy and make him go. Times like this I really wish Seth were home in the mornings so he could deal with it!

So, tomorrow we will do it again. Maybe I will get lucky and Dylan will be fine and want to go. If not, I will take him and drive away trying hard not to cry myself!! Then I will come home and count down the minutes until I get to go pick him up and hear all about his day at school!

What happens in Vegas...

Doesn't really stay in Vegas when it comes to me!!

We didn't get off to a great start.

We got on the plane in KC at 9:00 and then they told us a bird flew in the engine last night and they wanted to check it out real quick. Oh, great....they could have lied and said we were waiting on the beverage cart to get stocked or something. Seriously, a bird flew in the engine of the plane that I am about to fly on. How fun! But it was fine. We landed in Minnesota at 11:00 and out flight from there took off at 11:15--yep, we had 15 minutes to RUN to our gate because of the stupid bird. We literally took our seats and they started to pull out. Thank goodness we made it.

Something didn't make it though...our luggage. I knew it wouldn't since we barely made it. So, we reported it and went on the to hotel. I was planning on changing clothes, brushing my hair, and freshening up my makeup--but nope I didn't have any of it. So we decided we might as well head down to the casino and the strip. I stuck my driver's license, room card, and some money in my back pocket...I was ready to go! We played a few slots at our hotel then we walked next door to the beautiful Venetian. As we were walking around I spotted a restroom and decided to make a quick stop. I did my business and as I was pulling my pants up, what did I notice in the toilet...my hotel room key. I thought, oh that is so weird. I checked my pocket and all that was left was my money. Yes, my driver's license was GONE. I did what I NEVER thought I would do and I stuck my hand in the toilet to get my room key and see if my DL was stuck in the flusher part---nope---gone. I washed my hands with lots of soap and hot water and walked out, scared to death of what Seth would say. I told him and he took it better that I thought. I decided to go back and check around the floor again, but still gone. We walked back to our hotel, and yes about half way there I just started to cry. I was so upset and felt bad that I ruined our trip. Seth thought people were going to think I just lost a lot of money!! We got to our room and called the airline to see about gettimg home without my DL. Luckily I had my work ID that has my picture on it and my FABULOUS sister went to my house, got my social security card, and over nighted it to me. Getting on the plane with those things wasn't bad at all, just walked right on as usual!! Thank goodness!! And before you ask how many drinks I had before this happened...ZERO!!!!!!!!!! I had no beer the entire trip! I didn't gamble much either. I was scared I would get in trouble if I got caught! It was fine, I just picked out the slot machines, wathced Seth push the buttons, and sipped on sprite and water (once again no Dr. Pepper).

Well our luggage made it there around midnight and we went on with our little vacation. Our main reason to go was for Seth to bowl. It was a big deal. It was a National competition. He is an AWESOME bowler and he bowled like crap. They all did. He did have one good game, he had the first 7 strikes. I was nervous for him. I can't watch when he has that many strikes. We don't make any kind of eye contact...it is nerve racking. On the 8th frame he left one pin standing. I thought I was the only one watching Seth, but EVERY person around me (and only 1 knew Seth) made a big sigh. How cool is that, my hubby rocks at bowling so much that people notice him and watch him. How lucky am I!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily his bowling didn't ruin our trip. We still had fun and we want to go back.

Sorry, no pics. Not a single one was taken. They didn't allow it during bowling, and we just didn't think about it while out and about!

Off to Vegas

Seth and I are off to Vegas tomorrow. He is bowling in a tournament and I am going to be his cheerleader (minus the short skirt and pom poms!).

Dylan gets to stay with Grandma and Grandpa Shaver. They have so many fun things planned! I know he will have a blast...I just hope he misses us a little!

When we come home Saturday I will be preparing Dylan (and me) for his first day of Creative Play. It is a 3 hour camp he will go to in the mornings for 2 weeks. He says he will be fine going there without mommy staying...we will see! I think there will be a few tears shed...by mommy and Dylan possibly.

Monday is also the day I am going to start working in my classroom. There is A LOT that needs to be done since I am moving classrooms. I feel like summer is ending all too quickly. The new school years brings a lot of firsts though...Dylan will start his first day of preschool and I will start my new job as a 2nd/3rd grade teacher. Wow, it will take some adjusting!

Right now, I look forward to Vegas. Seth promises me the 107 degree high will only feel like 90. We will see if he is right!!

Anything like daddy

My sister came over the other day and handed me Brad Paisley's new CD and said you must listen to #8 now!! This song fits Seth and Dylan to a tee! Dylan is so much like his daddy (well, from stories I have heard I don't think Dylan is quite as mischievous!!). I love that. If Dylan turns out as funny, kind, and handsome as his daddy he will be a lucky man! Of course, he has lots of his mommy too!!
This weekend Seth took Dylan to a real gold course. Not the driving range, not the putt putt, but the real course!! Here in Topeka we have a small 9 hole course, that is perfect for Dylan to go to right now! He LOVED it! Seth LOVED it too! He called me to tell me all about it--it was so cute!! We had to go back Sunday so I could watch (oh, and take pictures!).

My little artist

Dylan got Kai Lan magna doodle for his birthday and he LOVES it!! His favorite thing to draw on it is Seth and I. Take a look at two of his many creations! He even likes to give us descriptions sometimes. How kind he is to his dear mommy!

Happy 4th

This song always makes me think of the 4th of July. Not because it is played a hundred times on that day. Not because it is about The USA. But because it makes me think of 4th of July when I was growing up. Every year we would set up lawn chairs in our driveway and watch the parade. We were so lucky that the parade route in our town went right down our street. It was a great parade and something I will always remember. Later in the afternoon we would head to old town Lenexa (where we lived) and look at all the stands that would be set up. In the evening we would watch the fireworks show that was put on by the town. We would always seem to be close to the band and they would ALWAYS play God Bless The USA. I would stand next to my dad and sing along with him. It is a song that, know matter what day of the year it is played, I think of my dad.

Now that I have my own family, we are making new memories, that I hope Dylan will always remember. 4th of July is Seth's favorite holiday. He LOVES fireworks! I have never in my life lit a firework, so it is something new to me. Every year we go over to his parent's house, have a BBQ and once it gets dark enough they guys (Seth, his brother, and dad) have a hay day!! It is fun to watch!! What isn't fun, is watching them sweep up the mess for an hour or so once they are done!!!

I would say Seth is passing it down to Dylan!! This is just the beginning! Seth and his dad will make another run to the fireworks stand later this afternoon.

Sidewalk paint

I don't know who loves sidewalk chalk more...me or Dylan!
Secretly I was always excited to be a teacher so I could write on the chalk board. Trust me, I am soooo happy I don't have to write on one, I love my dry erase board!! Also, writing on a chalk board is not the reason I wanted to be a teacher, it was just an added perk!!
Today we tried sidewalk chalk paint. It was a birthday present, and it was pretty fun. He got 3 bright colors, a roller brush, and a paint brush. I squirted the colors in his paint tray and he went to town. He loved it!
I didn't really care where he got the paint, it all comes off...plus it really adds some color to our driveway and porch.

I don't know, there might have been more on Dylan than on the driveway. Thank goodness for a hose!

Seth came home to this! He said, does this stuff come off?? Well, of course! Do you think I would let Dylan get it all over him if it didn't come off!!! He thought Dylan looked like a clown! Shortly after this picture we went to the backyard, stripped down to undies (Dylan, not me) and got hosed down before heading in the house!! What a fun summer day!

Hungry, Hungry Hippos

I loved this game when I was little.
I have been eyeing it for a while to get for Dylan.
When I saw that it was on sale at Target I decided to get it for him.
He LOVES it.
I love it too.
However...after 20 minutes or so, it gets a little loud. He gets a little loud. And I get a little headache!! Oh well, nothing better than hearing your own child laugh out loud. The headaches are worth it!!
We are taking it to Aunt Ashley and Uncle Brad's for the 4th. Don't be surprised if it gets left at their house. On accident of course.

How?

How did that sweet, tiny baby of mine that I brought home just about 3 years ago turn into such a big boy?

I will admit it, I went to give him just one more goodnight kiss last night and then I came out to Seth with some tears in my eyes.

I asked, where did the baby go?

We have a 3 year old.

He isn't a baby anymore.

I want to freeze time and keep him at this stage.

I think at that moment Seth was thinking...why did I come home today...when I am away I can watch the ball game in peace without my over emotional wife crying because our son turned 3!!!!

Ok, so I doubt Seth thought that, this was our first Tuesday together in over 5 weeks (well except for Disney!!). And...lucky him...he's home until at least Sunday!!

On to the reason for this post...

As you know from yesterdays blog, Dylan is 3. He seems so grown up. Today he took a break from playing, got his markers, looked at me in the eye and said, "I have to do my work before I go to school in that house." What...when did you grow up so much? Why did I let this happen so quickly? As I know, thanks to my husband, it did happen, and it will continue to happen, so I might as well get over it and deal with it!!!

In a few short weeks Dylan will be going to that school in that house! For the last 2 weeks in July he will go to Creative Play Camp. It is for 3 hours everyday for 2 weeks. I am excited for him to go, but I don't know who will cry more....mommy or Dylan!!! Ever since Dylan was 6 weeks old and I went back to work, Seth's mom has watched Dylan. He has never gone to someone outside of the family...not because I don't want him too, we just haven't had to. So, I know in 3 weeks when I drop Dylan off at "that house" it will be an emotional morning.

Doing his work!
